Mrs. Griselda Barajas, a prominent community leader, owns and operates Griselda’s World Cafe at the Capitol), located inside the California State Capitol), and Griselda’s Catering Services, located in the heart of Sacramento. Texas Mexican Restaurant and Catering opened its doors to the delight of Sacramento businesses and residents in 1993. On January 7, 2002, she took over the Capitol’s promary concession, now known as Griselda’s World Cafe, located on the lower level, and her improvements have received bipartisan approval. She attributes the success of her restaurants and catering to the entrepreneurial spirit that was instilled in her as a young girl.
As a recognized business leader, she continues to be a strong advocate for small business owners in the community. Over the years as an advocate leader, Griselda has developed personal and solid working relationships with business and community leaders, elected officials, trade union, and organizational representatives for building coalitions on business and community issues.
In addition to being responsible for all aspects of her businesses, Griselda has been a member of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and PAC since 1992 and has served as a volunteer on various community and business organizations. In 2007, she was appointed by the SHCC Board as Chair of the Board of Directors, serves as a Board Member of the METRO Chamber of Commerce, and VP of the Slavic American Chamber. She has also served as Vice President of Business Advocacy, Chair of the Cultural Arts Committee, Co-Chair of Latina Network, and volunteered with the Education, Jalapeno and Membership committees. She contributed to other organizations such as the California and United Staes Hispanic Chambers of Commerce as a representative, the Hemispheres Arts Academy Board of Directors, HOPE PAC, the Rotary Club of Sacramento, and as a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum.
Ms. Barajas has received the following acknowledgments and awards: Small Business Advocate of the Year by the California Chamber of Commerce; Business Woman of the Year by the Sacramento and California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, acknowledging her in the Sacramento Business Journal (Forty under Forty), Sacramento Bee, Comstock’s Business and Sacramento Magazines.
Griselda is a proven success, as attested by the stream of satisfied patrons leaving Texas Mexican Restaurant and Griselda’s Catering. After all, she stands by her motto, “Maintain the highest standards possible in our foor preparation, in our presentation, and in our service to ensure the best for our customers and clients.”
Ms. Barajas has donated considerable time and resources to innumerable local non-profit organizations, including the arts and education. Griselda Barajas is also a proud mother of a 17-month-old baby named Sofia, a 31-month-old toddler named Ma Antonio, a 5-year-old named Gabriela Liliana and a 6-year-old named Grace Diana-Rose.
