Cheryl Getuiza is a native Californian. She was born in the Silicon Valley and raised in the East Bay.
Currently, she is the Chief Correspondent at California Forward. California Forward is a nonprofit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to work with Californians to help create a “smart” government – one that’s small enough to listen, big enough to tackle real problems, smart enough to spend our money wisely in good times and bad, and honest enough to be held accountable for results.
“We’re different from other efforts to reform our state, because we believe in the importance of working together and understand that only robust public discussion and the creation of broad coalitions can move solutions forward,” states Ms. Guitiza.
As the “face” and “voice” of the organization, she’s collaborated with numerous community and business leaders as well as educators to tell success stories of those who are helping the state’s economy forge ahead.
But Cheryl’s former life, as a television reporter, took her all over the country. Her latest stint brought her back home, to the Golden State, specifically Los Angeles where she spent a year and a half with KTLA running after local politicians, trying to stay warm and dry during Storm coverage and sitting next to Hollywood stars in court. She’s even reported for CNN covering breaking regional news.
Prior to KTLA, Cheryl spent three years living near Disney World in Orlando, Florida reporting for WOFL-TV. There she covered an array of stories, including ones that made national headlines. She appeared on FOX NEWS numerous times.
Before that, Cheryl enjoyed the bright lights of Sin City, Las Vegas, Nevada where she reported for KTNV for 3 years. She also spent a year as a reporter/anchor for KOBI in Medford, Oregon. She got her start in Carlsbad, Ca., reporting for KDCI, CNN’s Local Headline News.
When she’s not at work, Cheryl enjoys hiking at Griffith Park, going to the beach, spending time with mini-me daughter, her husband and two incredible dogs. But almost as important, Cheryl enjoys rooting on her two favorite sports teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Giants!!
She’s a member of the Asian American Journalists Association.
