The Annual LBA Legislative Day in Sacramento, May [...]

The Annual LBA Legislative Day in Sacramento, May 8-10, 2012 – providing a forum for our Members to engage the state legislative process and be informed on top issues affecting the Latino Business Community in California – was a great success!

LBA Legislative Day in Sacramento – May 8-10-2012

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 members of the LBA made their annual pilgrimage to the State Capitol. On Wednesday, May 9th, a contingent of LBA Board Members and Member Business Owners met with key State Senators and Assembly Members and discussed some of the most important issues facing the Latino Businesses Community in the current economy. The LBA Group was exteremly well-received and important connections were made that will serve businesses, and particularly Latino-owned businesses in California well into the future.

Latino business comprises a large part of this state’s economic engine and the LBA believes that in order for this state to survive so must Latino business. Among the issues discussed May 9 were the generally-unfavorable business climate in California, due primarily to taxation and over-regulation and the lack of focus on generating new business. The LBA BOD Members also emphasized what the LBA is doing to support Latino and Minority business and the Latino community at large.

LBA Chairman and CEO Ruben Guerra was also granted an interview by Mimi Walters and featured on the morning TV Show in Sacramento, “Mornings with Mimi.” The video of this taped interview will soon be published on the LBA website!

The Latin Business Association, Chairman Ruben Guerra and the LBA Board of Directors would like to express our sincere appreciation to the State Senators and Assembly Members who took time from their busy schedules to meet with us, and a special thanks for the dedication, and support, from all the participants of The Annual LBA Legislative Day in Sacramento!

Video: Lights, Camera, Jobs: Los Angeles’ Economic Picture

As a major international import and export center which, combined with the Port of Long Beach constitutes the world’s fifth-largest port complex, tourism remaining strong, a re-emerging manufacturing base and a vigorous Hispanic market accounting for fully 49% of California’s total Hispanic business, Los Angeles is slowly recovering from the recession of 2008. View the video blog prepared by California Forward’s Cheryl Getuiza about the Ecomonic Story of the City of the Angels, which features comments from LBA Chairman & CEO Ruben Guerra and other prominent local business leaders, and see if our L.A. economy “has what it takes to stay in the picture”:

The California Economic Summit

On May 11, 2012 in Santa Clara every California region will set priorities on a path toward sustainable growth.

Californians know that the time to fix our state’s economy is now. People from every region are standing up and demanding change. We must create real and intelligent remedies that will attract capital, generate jobs and encourage sustainable communities all over California.

On May 11, 2012, the California Stewardship Network, an alliance promoting economic vitality and California Forward, a bipartisan good government reform effort to improve performance and democracy, will host the first California Economic Summit, Can-Do California: Thriving Regions Lead to a Thriving State.
